BE IT RESOLVED THAT Whereas the residents of the Township of Amaranth are very proud and appreciative of the work the members of the Canadian Armed Forces are performing in Afghanistan;

THEREFORE the residents and Council of the Township of Amaranth, wish you all a safe and happy Canada Day, and a safe return to your families and friends;

 

2010 MUNICIPAL ELECTION CANDIDATE REGISTRATION / NOMINATION

This notice is for anyone proposing to be a candidate in the Municipal Election on October 25, 2010. Candidates may file a registration / nomination form during regular business hours after January 1, 2010, with the last day for filing being September 10, 2010. A prescribed fee, which may be refundable, in the amount of $200.00 for Head of Council, and $100.00 for all other candidates payable by cash, certified cheque or money order, must accompany the registration / nomination form.

Candidates must not spend or raise funds for their election campaign until their registration / nomination form has been filed. The form is available from the office of the Municipal Clerk or Click here

LIBRARIES

  • Visit Grand Valley Public Library at www.grandvalley.org and search “Your Library” for on-line catalogue and hours of operation. No membership fees apply.

  • Shelburne Public Library has a new website. Find their catalogue and hours of operation at www.shelburnelibrary.ca. No membership fees apply.
  • Residents who wish to use the Orangeville Library will be reimbursed one membership per family by the township by submitting your receipt. Visit www.orangeville.library.on.ca


 

LANDFILL HOURS

Effective March 4, 2009, Amaranth Landfill Site will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Wednesdays. Saturday Hours remain unchanged at 8:00a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

USED TIRE COLLECTION

Residents of AMARANTH may drop off their used tires, any kind, up to 4 per visit,
OFF THE RIM, at the landfill site during business hours- NO CHARGE !

At a regular meeting held August 19th, 2009, Council adopted By-Law number 40-2009 with respect to Development Charges. See attachments below for further details: The Residential Development Charge imposed under By-Law 40-2009 and indexed February 3, 2010, is $9,136.00. The Development Charge per Wind Turbine is $7,059.88. Please note that a building permit is required for all renovations and/or building on your property. The Accessibility Standards for Customer Service (Ontario Regulation 429/07) came into force on January 1, 2008.  As public sector organizations, the Township of Amaranth must comply with the regulation by January 1, 2010.

Healthy Wetlands for the Upper Grand - Wetlands are areas that are permanently or seasonally flooded. They are important places for wildlife but are also important to people, especially in agricultural areas. Program can provide up to 100% of funding for landowners in the Upper Grand Watershed for demonstration projects that restore or enhance wetland and associated upland habitat. Examples of eligible demonstrations include wetland restoration, livestock exclusion fencing. Non-permanent wetlands are important! FIRE PREVENTION AND EDUCATION


FIRE, POLICE & AMBULANCE remind residents that it is mandatory to have your six digit Emergency Number displayed appropriately at your property. Subdivisions have been assigned a house number which is to be posted. Do not use your lot number. Houses not posted correctly may result in delays in Emergency vehicles finding your property.

Efforts are always underway to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of services by the Township of Amaranth and its local boards, and thus far no barriers have been identified that would hinder efforts to achieve these improvements.

TOWNSHIP TREE PROGRAM

In conjunction with the MNR Land Stewardship Network, the Township is offering a tree program for distribution in the Spring. The program offers both tree and shrub species at a subsidized cost to the residents. The seedlings and shrubs are suited for general reforestation and wildlife habitat.In order to offer the trees at reduced costs, the municipality orders the trees in the Fall, in co-operation with several area municipalities, for distribution to residents in the Spring. The Land Stewardship Network offers technical information and volunteers for distribution, as well as subsidizing the cost of the program. Click Here for copy of Order Form

TOWNSHIP OF AMARANTH is proud to present the Annual Report for the
WALDEMAR WATER SYSTEM for 2009.

This report summarizes the source of your water supply, the treatment process and the results for hundreds of parameters tested during the quarter including any "Adverse Water Notifications" issued during the reporting period. The report is available upon request, without charge, at the Municipal Office located at 374028 6th Line Amaranth, between the hours of 8:30 and 4:30 Monday through Friday.

Water restrictions are in place for watering your lawns and gardens; please conserve water by following the regulations. "Even numbered houses on even days, and odd numbered houses on odd days, between the hours of 5:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.; filling of swimming pools from the water system is prohibited."

Eligibility for Grants to Protect Drinking Water Sources

If your property is close to the municipal drinking water supply for Waldemar, you may qualify for grants of up to 100% to help pay for projects that protect water quality. Projects such as well decommissioning and upgrading, septic inspections, replacements and upgrades, and erosion protection measures.
