Waste Management in the County

Waste management responsibilities within the County of Dufferin are divided between the County and the eight local municipalities.  Local municipalities are responsible for garbage, recycling , yard waste, and large item pick-up.  

The County manages the DUFFERIN COMPOSTS! Organics Program, Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Goods Recycling Event Days, the Take It Back! Product Stewardship Program, as well as other initiatives that further reduce the amount of waste being landfilled.

Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Goods Recycling Event Days 2011

Events will be held May 7 - Town of Mono; May 28 - Primrose; June 25 - Orangeville; Wednesday, July 13 - Primrose; Wednesday, August 17 - Orangeville; September 10 - Grand Valley; October 1 - Primrose; October 29 - Orangeville.

  • DUFFERIN COMPOSTS!! - Green Bins have been delivered to all households and Household Compost Pick occurs weekly. If you have any questions regarding this program contact Waste Management Division at the County of Dufferin 519-941-2816 ext. 2620 or wastemgmt@dufferincounty.on.ca
  • Limit of three (3) garbage receptacles per week. If you wish to place additional bags out, they must be preprinted bags, which are available for purchase at Municipal Office and Marsville Convenience for $2.00 a bag. Residents are encouraged to recycle and compost to reduce the amount of material being land filled.

  • Materials not acceptable for collection may be taken to Dufferin Transfer Station, Cty. Rd. 11 ~ 519-943-0101
  • Backyard Composters are available for purchase at the municipal office for $30.00
  • Please do not obstruct your mail box with your garbage and recycling.
  • You must arrange for pick up of large appliances, furniture and large bulky items a week in advance with Sandhill Disposal 1-888-941-3345. These items are noted on the schedule for the second Monday of the month.
  • Materials not accepted for collection may be taken directly to Dufferin Transfer Station County Rd. 11 . You may also contact Sandhill Disposal at 1-888-941-3345 for a roll off bin.
  • The illegal dumping of refuse and debris on Township road allowances and private property is prohibited. Violators will be prosecuted.
  • Recyclable Materials need not be sorted, just placed in your Blue Box. The truck used for collection has two compartments - one for garbage and one for recyclables.
